Abuse is about control. Violence may be a manifestation of domestic abuse, but domestic abuse is fundamentally about control.
...and the perpetrator (that is the abuser) can't bear to be out of control.
When the perpetrator feels he/she is losing his/her grip, violence (violations) will escalate so as to regain control.
